Are Pecans Gluten-Free? Are Nuts Gluten-Free? Your Top GF Questions Answered!

At Sunnyland Farms, we have sold naturally gluten-free pecans and nuts to tens of thousands of customers worldwide since 1948. Here are a few of the top questions we get around pecans, nuts, and gluten-free diets.

Are Pecans Gluten-Free?

Yes, pecans are gluten-free. Pecans are from a tree – and really, you can’t get any more wholesome than a fresh, in-season pecan. The only exception is if an additive has been put into the mix, or the pecan is part of a larger recipe that contains gluten. Many times, you’ll only see gluten in breaded meat products, like a chicken nugget, or a chicken patty that has a filler or breading.

Are Sunnyland’s Farms Pecans Gluten Free Also?

Yes, you can feel confident knowing that Sunnyland’s pecans, nuts, and nut mixes are all gluten-free. Our pecans and nuts have no preservatives, are naturally gluten-free, and heart-healthy when consumed in moderation.

Why Is a Gluten-Free Diet Important?

Gluten-free products are essential for those with celiac, or a gluten/wheat intolerance.

What is Gluten?

Gluten is the protein that is in wheat. Many people have reactions to that protein, and avoiding it reduces inflammation, bloating, and gas. Gluten is only found in wheat and wheat-based products.

What Foods Contain Gluten?

Besides wheat-based products that contain gluten, you’ll find gluten in many breaded meat products. For example, in a breaded patty that has a filler or breading. Some seasonings or sauces, like soy sauce, also contain gluten. Also, many forget that beer is made with rye, and contains gluten.

How Do You Know if a Product Has Gluten?

It’s imperative to read the label. Here are common words that would clue you in: wheat, wheat starch, hydrolyzed wheat protein, spelt, barley, rye, malt, and malt flavoring.

Is Gluten Good?

Gluten itself provides a structure to baked goods. It’s very useful for certain foods and products to maintain form and shape. However, for those who have a gluten sensitivity, or who have celiac disease, gluten is something their body can’t tolerate.

What Does “Naturally Gluten-Free” Mean?

A naturally gluten-free food means it does not inherently contain any gluten ingredients. This means it does not contain wheat, rye, barley, or any other manufactured ingredient that contains wheat.

Is a Paleo Diet the Same as a Gluten-Free Diet?

A paleo diet should be gluten-freeif someone is doing paleo in its true form. A paleo diet focuses on whole food form, like meat, fish, fruits and veggies, and avoids sugar, dairy, and processed foods. Pecans are a great paleo – and gluten-free – choice.
